A bright, homely one-bedroom apartment on the second floor of a canal house in the Jordaan, with French windows over the water and a sunny south-facing balcony at the back. Fully furnished and equipped down to linen and kitchenware, it’s a comfortable, well-proportioned home for one person, a couple, or a couple with a baby. Available from a minimum rental period of two months on an indefinite rental agreement with one month’s notice; BRP registration is supported.

The open-plan living and dining room sits at the front of the apartment, where French windows frame the canal and let in plenty of light. There’s a dining table with four chairs and a bench — room for six when friends come over — plus a large sofa, armchair and coffee table. The kitchen is fitted with an induction hob, combination microwave/oven, dishwasher, Quooker tap, fridge and freezer, and the apartment has its own washing machine and drying rack. The bedroom has a king-size bed and, like the kitchen, opens onto the balcony at the rear of the property. South-facing and furnished with a table and seating, it’s a quiet spot for a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. The bathroom has a bath, a separate shower and a double sink, and there is a separate toilet. The interior was renovated about seven years ago and has been well looked after since — it’s not brand new, but it’s warm, comfortable and has the lived-in quality that makes a place feel like home rather than a showroom. This is the Jordaan at its best: one of the prettiest canals in Amsterdam, lined with 17th-century houses, independent shops, cafés and some of the city’s best restaurants. The Saturday markets at Noordermarkt and Lindengracht are a few minutes’ walk, as are the Anne Frank House and Westerkerk. The Nine Streets and Dam Square are around ten minutes on foot, Centraal Station roughly fifteen, and the Marnixstraat tram stops put the rest of the city within easy reach. For anyone commuting, Schiphol is about twenty minutes by train from Centraal, and the A10 ring road is a short drive away. It’s a neighbourhood people move to Amsterdam hoping to live in — and rarely want to leave. One note: I’ve kept to “minimum rental period of two months” and the indefinite-agreement wording rather than any fixed duration, per the residential-wording rules.
